Exchange 2007 System Tech Tip - 1/30/2008
by Don Fuller
Cluster Continuous Replication provides the availability to replicate through asynchronous log shipping all of the databases on an Active Exchange 2007 Mailbox Server to a Passive Exchange Mailbox Server. This design requires that the Clustered Servers reside within the same subnet.
The majority of Exchange Server houses cannot use this technology for Disaster Recovery at a remote site for various reasons:
·          The subnet is at maximum limit.
·          The routers are not or cannot be programmed to forward to a local address that is actually remote.
·          There are encryption systems between the Data Center and the remote Disaster Recovery site.
The Solution: Plan and wait for Exchange 2007 SP1. SP1 includes a new High Availability Feature called Standby Continuous Replication (SCR).
Using SCR , storage group data (on a per-storage group basis) can be replicated to remote standby servers or clusters.  This feature does not require
the recovery server to be on the same subnet.
